To get any site ranked nicely by the search engines Search Engines there are some basic parameters that that need to be followed in your website.  I will go over the basic steps of making your website more search engine friendly.  Remember, the best method to generate interest in your website is by influencing the search engines such as Yahoo, Google, and Bing.

One problem you will encounter is that everyone is competing for the top positions and without a good search engine positioning and optimization strategy it may be impossible to get the visibility you want.   Here are the basic search engine optimization and positioning tips that will help get you noticed and ranked higher than your competition.

For blogs you don't need to spend a lot of time optimizing your home page as most of your traffic will be focused on the blog entries which will contain the content that the search engines are focusing on. An initial post page is the page that features only one specific blog entry. Make sure the content is rich with keywords and keyword phrases but don't overdo it otherwise it won't make semantic sense. Be sure to use the specific keywords a few times because keywords are the important words in your web pages content.  Keep in mind to make sure that page content is not duplicated anywhere else on your website. It's a known fact that google notices duplicate content and will single out your site for it.  Most blog content is duplicated on blogs in three places, the home page, the post page itself and the archive page. To lessen the chance of this happening you need to use excerpts on your home page instead of the article itself. Give the user a sampling taste of what the blog entry consist of without giving them the whole thing.  Not using 'excerpts' usually means the content of the post will be on the main page.  When setting up the archive only list the article titles. There reasons for this are:

• Users find it easier to use the archived posts with the title only because they can use the titles find the post they want.
• If you have lots of posts the archives can look messy with lots of excepts

Don't miss using the title tag properly:

Always make good use of the title meta-tags. The title tag is found on the top of your browser and tells you (and the search engines) about the website. These tags re uses a lot with search engine optimization to make sure the article or post's name is available on the search engine results page (SERP).  Within your web pages you need to make use of tags dynamically. Different pages have different content for the tags and each tag gives unique information about the web page the user is viewing. Title tags need to be short and concise, and need to contain some of the same keywords that are used in the content of te web page or blog entry itself. This will have a tremendous impact on how the search engine's rank the site.  If you are applying this to a blog then be sure to look for a SEO type plug-in similar to the SEO plug-in that wordpress users can use to make sure the title tags are better.  Note:  Some people like to add there website address in the title of the post after actual title page. Example:  (original title) | <yourwebsite.com> : Basic-Steps-To-Get-Your-Site-Noticed. This technique is not as powerful as it once was and since it takes up space and reduces the number of keywords you can put in the title. it may have a negative effect on your search engine rank!

Effective use of HTMLtage like <H1>,<H2>,<H3>, etc:

Nowadays use of the html heading tags somewhat over looked. That is a COSTLY mistake.  The H1 tag itself is still a valued web page component within a number of search engines' ranking methods. The content data used as part of the H1 tags should be concise and make use of keywords. For blogging, make sure there is a H1 for the website's main title and the article itslf. The html heading tags (H2,H3,H4,H5,H6) should be used to emphasis less significant titles and other components.

Create A Permalink Structure That is Search Engine Friendly:
